Once I asked him, "Why do some groups have a 1000 members, and we have 15?" He looked at me and answered, "That's one of the mysteries of the universe." // Another time he talked about the value of speaking & sharing in AA, the value of hearing your story come into your ears after coming out of your mouth. Finally, at his memorial, someone talked about going on drives with Charlie, and when the passenger described one or another personal sage of disaster that was happening, Charlie would say, "These are the jokes." That was cryptic, theological, or mythological, but I've never forgotten it.
